Mud Pies in the Slums

By Dr. David Sylvester

Executive Pastor of Operations

Lately, we have joined together to cheer for the church in our Sunday series, CHEERS! And the church, meaning the environment where the grace of Jesus, the quick acceptance of others, and the unconditional love of Jesus permeates the hallways and every nook and cranny of our existence!

The world, meaning those yet to come to Christ, find themselves looking for love in all the wrong places and often totally unaware of the loving environment that awaits them. It's essentially unimaginable until it becomes a reality as Jesus opens the eyes of the blind! He's kinda like that, you know.

Oxford scholar and writer C. S Lewis says it well:

"We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered to us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased."

Why settle for making mud pies when the grace of Jesus and an electric atmosphere of grace and love awaits us in the church?
